I realise it's been a while since I last updated the website, and truthfully it was only by chance that I decided to log into blogger this morning in a fit of procrastination from uni studies. I can't quite explain, or sufficiently put in words, the immense nostalgia and warmth that I felt as soon as I logged into the administrative dashboard of the shop. Although some things about blogger have changed, it was very, very good to have a peek again at the inner workings of the shop which has essentially persisted since its creation in 2007. It has come such a long way - and looking at it now, it has actually been two years since I last updated it (the last post was dated April 8 2012! Unbelievable!).

I hope you've been well, and of course I do hope to continue with this shop and my jewellery making. First priorities are to give this shop a serious makeover - the current layout is looking a little poorly!

Secondly, I hope to incorporate finer materials for my future pieces in future, so will essentially be removing a good majority of the current collection from the website. So if there is anything currently up here that strikes your fancy, please get in touch and a substantial discount will be applied to the final order. (Apologies for the laziness - I don't have the time to properly apply markdowns and such, but this is most definitely a sale of sorts. All this subject to the availability of the actual item of jewellery, of course.)

I look forward to sharing more pieces here with you all and, as always, thank you all for your patience, and your lasting support.

It's been a while since I've updated, as always, and I'm currently back in Melbourne for the Easter break and will be here for a week and a bit more! During this time I decided that the shop really needed a new look, as well as a bit of tidying-out of 'sold out' stock, plus I'd always wanted a more professional layout - like those fancy online shop kinds (think ASOS but not as glitzy), so I went ahead and did just that for The Red Jewel. Don't know why it's taken me this long, but now it's all laid out in a grid format so you can see everything at one go and/or arrange the pieces according to price, date added or alphabetical order. Wahey!

I have also made a couple of new pieces but have yet to put them up here. Till then, I shall be working away at this 8,000 word report because it is not going to write itself... Also, Happy Easter everyone! I know I had a lot of chocolate, family and movies (Mona Lisa Smile and Bridesmaids are my current two favourites of all time - have you seen them?), just like the holidays should be!

x x
Missy Hamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06560991192135030939noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-629957435498616842.post-40273695361623518272011-12-05T15:10:00.005+11:002011-12-06T00:09:29.383+11:00Quick update amidst the holiday packingI'm quite convinced that I am somewhat of a last-minute person... when left with 2 more days till I'm off to Singapore, what do I do? Suddenly decide that a spontaneous $10 earring sale is a good idea. And of course keep making more jewellery. In stark contrast, the pile of clothes that ought to be packed for the trip is still placidly sitting on the bed and the luggage bag is still empty... surely my priorities are a little mixed up right now, but I blame jewellery-making withdrawal symptoms - it's all hitting me too hard, too fast.

Whilst everyone's properly settling back into the festivities of holidays and perhaps the more organised amongst us will actually start thinking about Christmas presents for friends and family (trust me I'm not quite there yet), do take note of the following:

$10 earring sale (48 hours only! I know I keep saying generic stuff like this everytime I return, but it always seems to be that way. In any case, I'm back - for a good 3 months, that is - and have been enjoying myself thoroughly. A few highlights from the past few days that I've been back include going out with family for my birthday dinner yesterday, a highlight-to-be is meeting up with friends tomorrow in the city, and having a massive wardrobe renovation. I can't wait for the holidays - we'll be jetting off to Singapore on the 28th of November so with that...

SINGAPORE CUSTOMERS GET FREE POSTAGE on all orders placed from now till the 25th of November!!! Note that I'll only be able to post out the jewellery once I'm back in Singapore, though.

While I'm at it, because Christmas is approaching and I'm feeling in a particularly generous mood, why not have another clearance sale. I'll see if I can whip out a Christmas collection in time before I leave, but for now I'm sorry I don't have any new pieces to satisfy you guys with - perhaps you can settle for a 30% storewide sale :)

To conclude, a few reasons to get spending and do me a favour by clearing out my current stash of jewellery as I'll definitely need more room very soon for new pieces:

Free postage for Singaporean customers

30% storewide sale!!!!!!!!!

With that, I guess... no better way to wrap up this update by re-hanging up a sign that says "The Red Jewel is back in business!"

See you all very soon with new pieces of jewellery,

Sam

xx
Missy Hamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06560991192135030939noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-629957435498616842.post-55001681607191800712010-07-13T21:18:00.003+10:002010-07-13T21:22:31.429+10:00Last update for a while

Hey all,

Just a little note to say that the website has been uploaded with whatever else I've finished over the holidays. But that's not going to make up for the...93876682 days that I haven't updated this website in the past 2 months? Anyway - long story short, I've decided that I'm not going to be moving my beads up with me to Canberra, so it's going to be another dry spell here at The Red Jewel for the next 2 months till I get back in July. Sorry about that! In the meantime, stay warm and take care! It's getting colder now, brr. NOT looking forward to the minus something winters in Canberra!

Later!
X SamMissy Hamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06560991192135030939noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-629957435498616842.post-28599342056408261962010-04-11T14:24:00.003+10:002010-04-11T14:31:09.148+10:00Chirp chirp, Sam's back!

It's great to be back! Whilst gallivanting in Melbourne City I saw a cute bird quite similar to the one picture above (swallow? sparrow? mehhhh) and I got totally inspired to give the website a complete makeover, nature-themed with hints of girly and crafty in it. The result? 2 days completely wasted at the computer, but a very happy me. Oh and of course a much prettier website!

So if you guys haven't already seen my latest Twitter update, I did indeed come back to find that all my beads had been thoughtfully packed away for me in a box and shoved under my bed. Stubbornly, because I was really looking forward to making more stuff once I'd got back to Melbourne, I moved those boxes out from under the bed and haven't yet found a place to set all my beads up... but I will soon enough. Good news, though: I will be bringing every single last bead with me back up to Canberra when I go back next Saturday so The Red Jewel will have a new lease of life, hurrah!

For now... I have to get back to my very overdue holiday homework. Keep your eyes peeled for more exciting stuff underway!Missy Hamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06560991192135030939noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-629957435498616842.post-57610783049892756672010-03-26T21:39:00.001+11:002010-03-26T21:50:30.611+11:00TRJ is not dead!Hello everyone!!!

This is just a little shout out that I am very much still alive and kicking, albeit all the way in Canberra. It has seriously been too long! My holidays have been breathtaking, fattening but most importantly, relaxing - but it's good to be back after almost 2 months overseas. No wonder they say Home Sweet Home. Despite jetlag, crazy unpacking and uni application in the past week I've managed to squeeze in a bit of jewellery making, and came up with this festive collection, just in time for Chinese New Year.

Also - with the advent of my very imminent move away from Melbourne for uni, it is with great regret that I announce that I will unfortunately not be able to make as much stuff as I'd like to in the near future. That said, The Red Jewel is therefore going to have a little respite until I graduate... (wow that makes me seem so old)

But fear not! I will, as much as I can, update this website - I'll see if I can squeeze in some beads and pliers along with my luggage. Finally as a big thank you to all of you for your support over these years... ,

STOREWIDE 30% SALE

(excludes new items from CNY collection)

Sale lasts from 30th Jan to 4th Feb - catch it while you can ;)

Thank you everyone! Anyhow I'll keep you all updated if I ever do get round to uploading more pieces in the coming week.

That's all for now! I was feeling a little low on inspiration, so I started surfing the web for quotes and I stumbled across a whole range of beautiful Peter Pan quotes. I've chosen my favourite and decided to base this auction item on it. Wispy, fairylike and painted in colours of the woods, this necklace packs the punch of the Lost Boys, Tinkerbell and ultimately the magic of this much-loved Disney cartoon, Peter Pan.

I've decided to speed this auction up a bit because I'm leaving soon for holidays, so it'll only last for 4 days instead of the usual 7. Sorry!

TRJ Auction Rules
1. Starting bid at $5
2. Minimum increment of $1 per bid
3. What bliss! All this and more, coming up this month.

A brief holiday update: my room has never been cleaner since I recently suffered from a panic attack, brought on by the incredible mess of needles, thread, appliques, buttons and clips that my sewing ventures precipitated. I'll be uploading pics of what hairclips I came up with over these few days - not too many, but still reasonably something exciting to look forward to =)

Just so everyone knows: I'll be leaving for my holidays on the 12th of December to Korea and Singapore so all customizations and orders should ideally come in before that, seeing as I most probably won't be lugging around a kilo of beads and pliers around the globe with me! I'll be back in Melbourne sometime late January but will try to keep the website updated (possibly with photos!) of my travel.

Other than that, hope everything is coming along well with everyone. This Wednesday, the 18th of November 2009, will be The Red Jewel's first ever STALL at Caribbean Market!!! Yaaaaaaaaaayyyyy!!!

I have no idea how it is going to turn out, but I am all set to go! I've just got to make little signs to display on the stall table, plus some signs to indicate prices for the earring stands. Thanks to my lovely sister and mum, we spent a good 1+++ hours tonight making tags, threading them, pricing them and putting them on the jewellery! I could NOT have done all that without their help.

The result:

MARKET DETAILS
When - This Wednesday, the 18th of November; from 8.30am to 3.00pm
Where - 1280 Ferntree Gully Rd, Scoresby. For more detail, see map below
I'm not exactly sure how useful this notice about The Red Jewel's stall is, because we'll be randomly allocated a stall on the day so I can't say for sure where exactly in the market we're going to be. Nevertheless, if you do have time and are game for a leisurely stroll through the market, all the while keeping an eye out for a table full of gorgeous jewellery, then Wednesday's the day for you!
Admission charge - FREE!

To learn more about the market you can visit their website.

Hopefully it'll turn out well, I'll report back with photos if I do manage to get any. Do drop by if you have the time to see the jewellery up close in person, PLUS prices are also marked down heavily and I am also selling new releases that have not yet been uploaded on the website. See you there!Missy Hamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06560991192135030939noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-629957435498616842.post-13955641362287667502009-11-12T18:41:00.002+11:002009-11-12T18:55:43.804+11:00BAZAM. I'm back!

It has been too long! After 2 whole weeks of sheer torture, sleepless nights and immensely high stress levels, the dreaded exams are finally over today! It was a glorious day and was well-spent with very special people shopping down Chapel Street. I even got a skirt from Dotti! :O However the real exhilaration that I was expecting hasn't quite kicked in yet, probably needs a good night's sleep to realize. The thought of being able to wake up Whenever I Want tomorrow makes me so excited, my toes are tingling! So this newfound sense of liberation is slightly daunting, weird yet welcoming all at the same time.

Naturally, this means a lot more time available on my hands, so the workshop's looking potentially busy! I've compiled the following pieces I made during my difficult time of exams into a small collection, hope y'all like! I know I haven't had a collection since forever, but I'm hoping to get more out now that I have a lot more time to play with. Without having made these pieces, I am absoloutely positive I would have gone bonkers from the crazy high stress from the exams, and would not be sitting here calmly typing this out. So this is a very special collection! I decided to call it 'Simple Pleasures' because it reflects the bliss that one finds in the most unexpected ways.

I am actually going to churn out new pieces every so often from now on (and I think I may actually mean it for real this time!) so do keep checking back :) Thank you for all your patience during this difficult time; now that The Red Jewel's back in business you can definitely expect regular eye candy here any day!

XX SamMissy Hamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06560991192135030939noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-629957435498616842.post-11602764008982905582009-10-26T08:50:00.002+11:002009-10-26T08:53:09.113+11:00Goodbye for now!I'm really sad to say that the time has come for yet another hibernation. Until my exams are over, The Red Jewel will also have to take a break. Thank you for your patience and I'm looking forward to returning with more pieces and collections to share!

Missy Hamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06560991192135030939noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-629957435498616842.post-61252982930307414732009-10-08T17:18:00.002+11:002009-10-08T17:22:46.932+11:00Customized pieces

I've been working on a customized order recently for this bracelet-necklace set and the result was just lovely! Elizabeth, hope that you like this set as much as I do and that it matches your dress well :)

I've also come up with a custom made ring design for Elizabeth - not as part of the set above but just for separate wear. The joys of ring-making! Tedious, but rewarding.

Happy Friday in advance everyone! This week just passed by in a flash didn't it?Missy Hamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06560991192135030939noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-629957435498616842.post-34712674092378333472009-10-03T14:55:00.005+10:002009-10-03T20:00:42.350+10:00It's good to be back!Hello everyone!!! No I haven't gone for a holiday or anything of the sort - in fact quite the opposite. My trial exams are over!! They were on this whole week and pretty much drove me up the wall; e.g. Yesterday I wrote 5 history essays!

For now - spent this glorious, liberating morning making more stuff. I woke up to the feeling of: 'hey there's actually nothing to do today.' It was an awesome feeling. Made stuff, went out for yum cha, came back, lazed about, helped with a teeny bit of housework and now typing this out.

I found a cool, albeit lazy, way of zooming images in! Now all you have to do is hover over the existing image and a little popup thingamajigee will come up. So new pieces will be equipped with this handy feature as it's really too much trouble to go through all the existing ones.

A quick peek at the new items up:

Missy Hamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06560991192135030939noreply@blogger.com0
